National Partnerships on Children with Disabilities (NPcwd)
National Partnerships are groups of organizations that come together in a country to work towards advancing the rights of children with disabilities in line with the GPcwd's overarching objectives. They are independent of the GPcwd but should include a diverse group of stakeholders in light of the relevant national context, including local and international donors, local and international NGOs /DPOs, young people with disabilities, government counterparts, UN agencies and the private sector. Ideally, NPcwd's should ensure diversity in the partners involved, promote inclusive participation and ensure that the voices of people with disabilities are heard.
The main role of the NPcwd is to coordinate disability work on the ground, improve coordination and effective collaboration through national and local level networking, knowledge management, advocacy and communication. Rather than building new, NPcwd's should build on existing structures and engage actors based on a quick mapping of the realities at the national and local levels.
NPcwd's can count on the Secretariat to facilitate horizontal cooperation and networking as well as provide technical guidance and exchange existing tools on how to establish and monitor a NPcwd. The Secretariat will support collecting good practices and documenting lessons learned on the establishment of NPcwds and disseminate them among partners. NPcwd's have been established in several countries, including Kenya, Afghanistan and Malaysia.
