Task Forces
In the first year of the GPcwd, 4 task forces were established covering Education, Nutrition, Humanitarian Action & Disaster Risk Reduction and Assistive Technology, with the aim to enhance and mainstream disability rights in global child-focused agendas.
Some highlights among the achievements based on workplans covering 2012-2013 include the development of a compendium of sample policies and programmes that address nutrition of children with disabilities; the inclusion of children with disabilities in the 2013 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction; successful advocacy for disability to be specifically mentioned in the latest Humanitarian Omnibus Resolution; the establishment of an on-line community of practice around inclusive education of children with disabilities; and, advocacy for disability to be incorporated into the Global Partnership on Education (GPE) monitoring framework (for a more detailed account please refer to the GPcwd Activity Report 2012-2013).
In the course of its second year, the GPcwd expanded with an additional 6 Task Forces and is now covering the issues of Early Childhood Development (ECD); Physical Activity and Non-Communicable Diseases; Child Protection; Leadership and Mentoring of Children and Young Girls with Disabilities. Each of these Task Forces is chaired by partner organizations who will be finalizing their work plans for 2014-2015. In addition, discussions around the establishment of a Task Force on Access to Health and Adolescents & Transition to Work are ongoing.
